Thanksgiving (Wild) Turkey Cocktails!

We’re not American, but welcome any opportunity to celebrate with drinks. A list of cocktails recipes from Wild Turkey just in time for Thanksgiving gave us just the excuse.

We managed to visit the Wild Turkey distillery when in Kentucky last year and although we missed the tour, the modern visitor centre still had a lot to offer.
Wild Turkey is known for it’s spicy flavours with a relatively high rye content in all the products. In fact there only two mashbills (the combination of cereals which are distilled) used to create all the whiskies in the range.
The recipes are below, but we chose to make the classic Old Fashioned using a Wild Turkey 101 miniature we’d bought at the distillery. This is the higher ABV version of the ‘standard’ bourbon to give a bit more flavour.

Unsurprisingly it worked very well; now we just need to get hold of some more Bourbon and a bottle of Wild Turkey Rye to mix the other recipes.
The other bottle we haven’t yet tried is the recently released Rare Breed, which is intended for drinking neat or with ice.
Maybe that’s one for Christmas time. Cheers!

Place sugar, bitters and part of the whiskey in a rocks glass, break down sugar with a spoon, then add ice and stir. Slowly add more ice and whiskey whilst stirring to dilute the sugar. Garnish with orange zest over the top, and place the rind in the glass.
