Jura ‘The Road’

Jura Distillery recently launched a new range of Travel Retail expressions; the first whiskies they have created specifically for Duty Free.

There are five expressions in total, comprising both aged and non-aged single malt.

‘The Road’ is second in the set; the name referring to the single road which exists on Jura.

It’s a non-aged whisky which comprises both peated and unpeated spirit. Initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels before finishing in 20 year old Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, The Road is bottled at a healthy 43.6%.

Nose

Warm and fruity nose – the signature Jura orange notes being quite prominent initially and accompanied by some oily walnut.

It becomes more tropical with time with notes of pineapple, rum and a little spice.

Palate

The first flavour is slightly bitter, but quickly gets buttery smooth and candied orange sweet. There’s a pleasant oiliness which coats the mouth and flavours of ginger and cinnamon spice sit alongside coffee beans and a milk chocolate note.

Finish

The finish gets peppery but remains sweet enough with the nutty oil being present – it disappears fairly quickly but the flavours hold well until the end.

Overall

Jura’s ‘The Road’ is a decent tasting single malt which you’re not going to be disappointed when drinking. I’d suggest that it’s not the most memorable of whisky profiles, but as a regular dram it’s worth a look when passing through the airport.
